Al Tayer Motors, a UAE-based automobile dealership, has opened its largest eco-friendly, multi-purpose facility in Al Barsha, the company said in a statement. The 55,000 square metre facility is spread over four levels, with dedicated pre-owned car showrooms for Ford, Lincoln, Jaguar, Land Rover and Maserati.
Eco-friendly technologies were used in the building, including a 660kW rooftop solar power generating system, said the company. The system will be able to meet the power requirements of the facility and has the potential to supply electricity back into the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) grid.
“Among the main highlights of the facility are the pre-owned cars showrooms. They have been designed to offer vehicles in an unparalleled retail experience through modern retail areas, which set a benchmark across the region,” said Ashok Khanna, Chief Executive Officer, Al Tayer Motors in a statement. In addition to the solar power generation system, environmentally-friendly technologies have been deployed to recycle more than 80% of the water used in the car washing, alongside high quality insulation to save on HVAC costs, and LED lighting to cut down on power consumption.
Motion sensor technology throughout the facility will switch off lighting during quiet or unused periods and switches it back on when motion or reduced light levels are detected in the area. In terms of solar capacity, however, the Al Tayer Motors facility will ultimately be bested by Al Nabooda Automobiles, which has contracted ALEC Energy to develop a 6.8MW rooftop solar power plant for its new Porsche body and paint shop.
