Parsons Delivers Transformative Riyadh Metro Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030

The much-anticipated Riyadh Metro was officially inaugurated on November 27, 2024, marking a milestone in Saudi Arabia's infrastructure development.

Led by the Parsons-led joint venture Riyadh Metro Transit Consultants (RMTC), the project has revolutionised urban transportation in Saudi Arabia, seamlessly aligning with the visionary objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

RMTC, which includes global infrastructure leaders Egis and SYSTRA, successfully managed the project and construction for two key contracts under the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC). Their expertise was instrumental in delivering the world’s longest driverless metro network, spanning 176.5 kilometres, with 86 stations and 7 rail depots.

Transforming Riyadh’s Urban Landscape
"The Riyadh Metro was designed to transform urban mobility, improve daily commutes, and create a more sustainable future for Riyadh," said Pierre Santoni, President of Infrastructure EMEA at Parsons.

"As the lead consultant, Parsons is proud to have delivered this world-class system and congratulates King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on its launch."

The metro is expected to ease traffic congestion, significantly reduce commute times, and elevate the quality of life for Riyadh’s residents and visitors.

Its cutting-edge design and focus on sustainability align with Saudi Vision 2030’s emphasis on innovative and environmentally friendly infrastructure.

Setting New Safety Standards
RMTC achieved a major safety milestone with 7 million work hours free from lost-time injuries, highlighting the joint venture's robust health, safety, and environment (HSE) measures. Over 450,000 HSE inductions and 13,000 safety campaigns were implemented, setting new benchmarks for the region's infrastructure projects.

A Global and Local Partnership
With over 65 years of presence in EMEA, Parsons has played a pivotal role in delivering transformative projects across the region. The company’s collaboration with RCRC and its global partners showcases its ability to leverage international expertise while catering to local needs.

"From project and program management to urban development and smart mobility, our team brought deep domain expertise to ensure excellence at every stage of the Riyadh Metro’s development," added Santoni.

A Visionary Transportation Network
The Riyadh Metro not only addresses Riyadh’s growing transportation needs but also sets the stage for future urban mobility solutions. As the Kingdom prepares for subsequent stages of the metro system, Parsons remains committed to supporting these initiatives and contributing to a smarter, more connected future for Saudi Arabia.
