Empower CEO wins Unsung Hero Award

Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Empower, the largest district cooling services provider in the world, received the Unsung Hero Award at the annual International District Energy Association (IDEA) Conference and Trade Show in Seattle. Bin Shafar was recognised for his contributions in transforming Empower from a startup to the world’s largest district cooling services providers over the last decade. Bin Shafar was instrumental in one of the largest acquisitions in the international district cooling industry recently, as Empower acquired Palm District Cooling in January 2014. The company’s portfolio now stands at an estimated one million Refrigeration Tonnes (RT) of cooling capacity, which is the largest of any single company in this sector. IDEA’s Unsung Hero Award is presented to members who perform above and beyond the call of duty on behalf of the industry and the association, without requiring or seeking recognition for their efforts.

Commenting on receiving the award, Ahmad Bin Shafar, said, “I am delighted to receive this IDEA award on behalf of Empower. It is truly gratifying to receive this recognition for the efforts of our team. Our achievements would not have been possible without the vision and support of UAE’s leaders, who encourage the innovation in all sectors and allow us to achieve what is the best for our country.” Empower also received the Gold Award in the “total square footage committed to district cooling services beyond north America” category at the annual International District Energy Association (IDEA) Conference. Moreover, Empower was selected as the winner of the bronze award for “total number of buildings committed to district energy beyond North America” category for the ninth time at the prestigious event. Empower also received the Gold Award in the “total Square footage committed to district cooling services beyond north America” at the conference. Additionally, Empower was selected as the winner of the bronze award for “total number of buildings committed to district energy beyond North America” category for the ninth time at the prestigious event. Empower won both the awards through competitive nominations from around
the world.
