The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE)'s General Assembly in Paris officially confirmed Saudi Arabia as the host of the highly anticipated global event slated for 2030.
During the assembly, the symbolic World Expo flag was ceremonially handed over to the Saudi delegation, led by Eng. Ibrahim Al-Sultan, Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers, and Acting CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC). The delegation also included Fahd bin Mayouf Al-Ruwaili, the Kingdom’s Ambassador to France, among other senior officials.
The Registration Dossier, a comprehensive framework for the Expo’s organisation, outlines Saudi Arabia’s vision to deliver a world-class event that embodies innovation, sustainability, and international cooperation — all central pillars of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

Commenting on the milestone, Al-Sultan stated: “The dossier’s record-time approval reflects the Kingdom’s growing stature on the global stage and reaffirms the international community’s confidence in Saudi Arabia’s capacity to deliver an extraordinary Expo. It also showcases the dedication and professionalism of the teams involved in this historic process.”
Riyadh has made history by becoming the first host city to complete and submit the Registration Dossier in nearly half the time typically required — underscoring its readiness and commitment to an efficient and impactful delivery.
This approval now opens the door for the next formal phase, including the issuance of diplomatic invitations to countries around the world.
Set to run from 1 October 2030 to 31 March 2031, Expo 2030 Riyadh will be held on a 6 million square metre site, with plans to host over 40 million visits.
Designed with cutting-edge infrastructure, hospitality, and immersive experiences, the venue aims to welcome more than 195 participating nations, positioning Riyadh as a global platform for dialogue, progress, and cultural exchange.
The confirmation of Riyadh as the Expo 2030 host marks a defining chapter in the Kingdom’s development narrative — one that blends visionary planning with international ambition.
