The regional headquarters of Grundfos Gulf Distribution (GGD) in Dubai has been awarded the LEED Platinum Certification for the operations and maintenance of existing buildings (LEED O+M: Existing Buildings) – an internationally recognised mark of excellence for green buildings.

The 4,456m2 multi-purpose complex, hosts a factory, service centre, and an office that serves the region with sustainable water solutions.

In the UAE, Grundfos joins the ranks of 11 buildings that have secured LEED Platinum certifications for operations and maintenance.

In addition to being the regional base for Grundfos, the facility also serves as a training centre where hundreds of engineers, consultants, and customers receive hands-on training and interact with the advanced cloud-based water solutions.

Commenting on the achievement, the area managing director of GGD, Kostas Poulopoulos, said: “We’re proud to be one of the very few facilities in the UAE to achieve this recognition, and this truly reflects our purpose of driving sustainability not only through our solutions but also in how we operate as a business.”

He added, “Years ago, we switched to using LED lights and upgraded our chiller management system which resulted in at least 70% reduced associated electricity consumption.  We also save 25,000 litres of water annually by disinfecting and recycling water for our ISO certified pump testbeds.”

Water consumption at the facility has decreased by 54%, while electricity consumption has decreased by 90% since 2017.

The recently installed solar panels at the facility yield 310,000kWh of energy per year and allow Grundfos to offset at least 210,000kg of C02 emissions annually. This move further boosts the company’s objective of becoming climate positive by 2030.
