The Museum of the Future will temporarily close its doors to the public starting September 1 as it begins a complete overhaul of its major exhibitions to prepare for a new suite of interactive installations.
The announcement was confirmed via the museum’s official social media channels, urging visitors to experience the current exhibits before the end of August. The upcoming temporary closure marks the start of work on a "next generation of experiences," designed to align with the iconic landmark’s upcoming fifth anniversary.
Unlike conventional institutions focused on preserving history, the Museum of the Future serves as an active incubator for scientific, technological, and societal innovation.
According to Mohammad Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Museum of the Future, the institution explores potential tomorrows and the opportunities created through science and technology, emphasizing that the future is actively shaped through knowledge and imagination.
Crowdsourced Concepts for a Revamped Experience
The redesign follows an international call for public input, which generated more than 1,000 ideas and proposals across the museum's digital platforms. Suggestions submitted by global contributors are helping inform the development of the new exhibits, which will offer deeper, more immersive ways for visitors to engage with impending technological shifts.
The comprehensive refresh will replace every major exhibition space inside the Sheikh Zayed Road landmark. The museum plans to release further details regarding the new exhibits, timelines, and specialized programming in the coming months.
